Reviews on Airbeds

Airbeds, a product of the latest technology of making mattresses has made its mark. In no time it has found acceptance amongst the medical community, which finds it very useful for people suffering from back pain, neck pain, allergies and Spondilytes. The sales have shot u p with everyone buying the mattresses for home use.

People who have used airbeds say that it makes them feel completely relaxed and they wake up feeling rejuvenated in the morning. You can read more reviews on the Internet and get product information too and check out more about the product yourself.

You could search for product information from the sites of the companies that sell the airbeds. You will also find product reviews on many sites, which not only give you're the various features but also compare them with other similar products. Besides there are blogs and sites where people who have bought these beds recently have shared their findings and experiences.

All said and done, airbeds are a good choice specially the ones with memory foam, which makes you totally comfortable and relaxed. They come with adjustable firmness controls and fit the body contours and give your body the rest it needs.

Women's Peep Toe Shoes

Women's peep toe shoes are never out of style. In fact, almost every season these shoes are on the top of the charts for fashion in footwear. There is something appealingly persuasive and stylish about these shoes that give its wearer an urbane sophisticated look. Moreover, this is what makes them a constant favourite with celebrities, models, and designers alike. Whether ceremonious cocktail parties or ramp shows, peep toes are universally admired.

The original version of the peep toe shoes came in three different styles-with high heels, as open-toe wedges, and as mules with stacked heels. The newer styles are modifications of these classic designs of these shoes. Newer designs add metal finishes, extra straps, chunky heels, platforms, suede, patent leather, etc.

The ankle boot style is a new variation that has both the appeal of the smart variety and the seductive boots. This particular style adds a punch to your look and personality and makes a fashion statement. Aside from the regular zipped style, one can also go for the button closures. They go well with jeans, trousers as well as skirts. Women's Peep Toe Shoes have contemporary detailing done in them, which adds a cutting edge and gives an impression of high street fashion.

The contrasting ankle straps of these shoes allow the wearer to team it up with short skirts, which looks very elegant. Some of these shoes comes with cork heels, which definitely add an extra edge to your outfit. The pumps of course are more suited for formal wear. Office wear or a business meeting a peep toe pump adds the right amount of sophistication and elegance to the attire. You can also try wearing ankle socks with your pumps mainly because stockings can be uncomfortable when it is not winter. Women's Peep Toe Wedges are so very 'in' this season! They can be paired up with textured or opaque leggings or tights.

It is not necessary that you have to purchase those shoes that will match with every outfit and can be worn round the year. However, with the right styling it can be worn year round by both young and older women. A neutral colour like black, brown, or white goes well with everything. Again, a bright coloured peep toe can also go well with a neutral outfit. This will brighten up your entire attire and give an extra edge to your look.

Women's Peep Toe Shoes completes a woman's closet. These shoes have been in vogue for a few decades, still the charm and elegance of this particular footwear has not faded away. The popularity of these shoes continues to rise even today and it has found a place in the hearts of many young women. Next time, when you are out shopping, you will see that there is a wide array of these shoes available in a variety of designs and patterns that is sure to grab your attention.

Essential Gear For the Beginning Guitarist

If you have recently bought a new guitar, whether that guitar is electric or acoustic, what follows are some essential items you will need as a beginning guitarist. Probably the number one rule is change the strings. Factory strings are really inferior, and if you do not know how, then a trip to the local music store, or some help from one experienced, to change these strings is essential. As a guitarist, I would recommend one of the following to suit your tastes:

Electric: Rock and Roll, Heavy Metal, Blues, Country - Ernie Ball Super Slinky - Extra Light

Acoustic Steel String: Popular, Folk, any genre - a good start would be either some Martin Light strings, or if you wish to spend a few more bucks, the Dean Markley Alchemy in Gold or Phosphorous (Light) are excellent choices.

Acoustic Nylon/Classical Strings - The Dean Markley brand is quite cheap, and fairly good sounding for an aspiring guitarist.

My suggestion would be to change strings about once a month, especially after much use. More expensive strings, nanoweb-coated such as Elixir last longer, but you will have to fork out a few more bucks.

What is important is your guitar's ACTION. This is essentially how close the strings are to the neck. If the action is lower, the guitar will be easier to play. If you have bought an electric guitar, you may need to have your action adjusted by a professional, to make sure you don't have blisters on your fingers after a week of rehearsal. There are also many brands of "finger-ease" coating to help you play, as well as keep your strings clean.

In addition, action modifications, can also be accomplished by a professional on acoustic guitars, steel or nylon strings.

In addition to new strings on your guitar, you will need to invest in a way to tune it. There are many devices out there, ranging from PC tuners, hand held tuners, as well as the tried and true pitch pipe, for tuning up your guitar to "440" - a normal tuning (from the top-lowest-fattest string) of E-A-D-G-B-E. If you find you are having trouble, turning the guitar tuners (machine heads), for a few bucks you can buy a string winder, which will help you accomplish tightening the strings. String winders, usually also double up, on being able to pull the guitar pegs, located on the bridge of the guitar.

If you only know a few chords on the guitar, you may want to consider purchasing a capo. Essentially a capo is attached across the frets, so that the guitarists can play in different keys while using the same simple chords. Capos come in all varieties and are inexpensive.

You will need some guitar picks and they range in thickness. I prefer Jim Dunlop 60 mm. which can be used for rhythm as well, as lead guitar. They also tend to last longer, than the regular pearloid guitar picks which tend to break, if you do a bunch of strumming. Again, this will become more apparent with practice. Choose a pick that you are comfortable with. The Jim Dunlop's I use usually run about 4 for a buck. Most music stores will give you a few freebies, if you are a customer.

It always a good idea, to invest in a guitar kit, which includes polish, as well as string cleaner. Having clean strings and great looking shine to your guitar add to the overall enjoyment and aesthetics of playing. Martin guitar polish is a great choice for acoustic guitars. GFS has a number of different quality items for guitar polish, as well Fast Frets, for cleaning and maintaining strings

You may want to begin rehearsing guitar sitting down, but sooner or later, especially if you are an electric guitar player, you will need a strap. Straps come in all varieties, and made from various materials. Much of this choice will be of personal preference, such as color, logo such as Fender - what counts is the strap being comfortable. You may want to check out eBay to shop around and compare products and prices.

If your guitar did not come with a gig bag or case, I would advise you to invest in one. Guitars get nicked and scratched up very easily. A gig bag should cost you about 10 or 15 bucks, depending on the quality, but if padded with Styrofoam or other material, can be more expensive. Good quality guitar cases can also be expensive. In essence, you may ask yourself, is this guitar I value, and wish to protect. I tend to have guitars which are encased, but also have a "beater" guitar, which I can take to a campfire or jam, and not worry about the potentials of damage occurring. Plus it doubles up as a canoe paddle, if needed. But seriously, your investment today on a guitar may increase in decades to come. I bought a used Fender Telecaster in 1975 for $200, which is worth about $2000 today.

If you have an acoustic-electric, or an electric guitar, of course you will need a cord to plug in, for amplification. Don't skimp on this item. There are very inferior cords out there which will deconstruct on you. Nothing is worse, than screaming feedback, unwanted buzzes and noise, if an inferior chord is used. This will drive you nuts. Been there, done that. Invest in a plastic molded cord of high quality, avoiding the screw together, and soldered type. You may have to spend 20 or 25 bucks, but you will not be spending 10 bucks a pop repeatedly on junk.

If you have not bought a guitar, then you may be interested in one of the guitar kits available in local music stores or online. Usually such a kit, such as the Epiphone Les Paul II kit or the Fender Squier kit, offers a good deal of these items mentioned, as well as an amplifier to plug your guitar into. I would take time to read the reviews of these items, of which there are many posted, in online stores such as "Musician's Friend." This site is really hard to beat, especially when shopping. It provides a good touchstone for comparing prices and values for music gear, in general.

In Conclusion

New Strings - $7-$15
String-winder (optional) - $10 or so
Capo (optional) $10 or so
Finger-Ease Coating for Strings - $8 - $10
Guitar Picks - 4 for $1 and Up
Guitar Polish - $8 - $15
Guitar Strap - $10 and up
Tuner or Pitch pipe - (Free online) $15 and up
Gig bag or Case - $15 and up
Guitar cord - $20 and up
A life time of enjoyable guitar playing - PRICELESS!

Shellac - Prayer to God - Dublin - October 28th 2008

u:mack productions www.umack.com @ The Button Factory http Shellac formed in Chicago, Illinois, in 1992 as an informal collaboration between guitarist Steve Albini and drummer Todd Trainer. Former Naked Raygun bassist Camilo Gonzalez sat in on early rehearsals and played on one song on Shellac's first single before permanent bassist Bob Weston, formerly of Boston's Volcano Suns, joined. Shellac has a distinctive, minimalist sound based on unusual and urgent time signatures, repetitive heavy rhythms, an angular guitar sound, and Albini's surreal, bitingly sarcastic lyrics. Songs typically do not have traditional verse/chorus/verse structure and the arrangements are sparse, to the point where some describe them as "amelodic". Shellac's signature sound is often associated with their enthusiasm for vintage Travis Bean guitars, a rare brand of aluminium-based instruments, and the Interfax "Harmonic Percolator" distortion pedal. Albini is also known to use copper plectra and unique guitar straps that fit around the waist rather than over the shoulder. The band prefers the intimacy of smaller clubs and live appearances are sporadic. Both Weston and Albini are renowned recording engineers, and use their preferred methods with Shellac. Albini prefers a very sparse, analogue recording sound with little or no overdubbing, and is meticulous about microphone placement and choice of equipment. This is reflected in Shellac's 'no-nonsense' approach to their own music, both in the studio ...

Treat Your Musical Instruments Right

The first and most affordable case is a gig bag. This is a soft sided bag, often padded and zippered, that is most commonly used to transport your instrument. You want to choose a padded gig bag over an unpadded one. It does not offer any protection against humidity and the instrument can still get damaged (dented, dinged or broken!) while in the gig bag. It does provide a handy way of carrying your instrument as backpack style straps are often included. If you have a very expensive instrument, a gig bag is not recommended for storage, only for travel and even then only if you can be very careful and avoid collisions.

Next is a semi-hard shell case. This type of case can include shock-absorbent foam or plastic molding to protect the instrument from damage and usually features a fabric covering with zippered closures, such as the Guardian Featherweight Cases. The semi-hard cases does not protect against humidity, but does usually prove resistant to dents, dings and actual breakage of the instrument. This can be a good option for longer term storage of your instrument, and for travel where you are in control of your instrument's handling. They are a good lightweight option.

Hardshell cases provide very good protection and they can range from affordable to high end. One example of high end hardshell cases is the Ameritage line. This line provides humidity controls and temperture controls! There are arch top and flattop cases available. Archtop cases provide superior protection but a flattop can offer limited protection against crushing. Hardshell cases often feature plush interior lining to cushion your instrument. One of the downsides is that hardshell cases are often heavy - which can be a hassle to carry around. This is an excellent long term storage solution for your instrument, to ensure mint condition.

How do you know what case is the best fit for your instrument? It is highly suggested that you purchase the manufacturer's recommended case for your instrument if possible. The manufacturer will often have a recommended case but, if that is not available and your instrument is a common shape, then other brands or especially custom after-market cases (such as the Ameritage line) will be a good choice. Ameritage even has an online measuring tool if you are interested in purchasing one of their cases and want to be sure to get the proper fit. Be sure that the retailer is an authorized dealer of Ameritage cases.

A few other important points:

* One of the most important thing about cases is that you want it to fit your instrument snugly!
* If you purchase a hardshell case, ensure that the instrument is not jiggling around inside the case.
* If you are unsure, take your instrument down to a local music store to test out different fits of the cases.
* It is recommended to store your instrument in a place that is not exposed to extreme temperatures. This is especially important if you have a wooden instrument as the wood can warp and change the tone and sound!
* Keep your instrument stored in a cool, dry area
* Store your instrument where it is safe from falling objects or falling down.

360 Degree Sailcloth Bags - One of the Most Unique Bags Available

For anyone that is looking for a strong bag, that is also unique, the sailcloth bags may be just what you want. The 360 degree bags are designed to last because they are made from recycled sails. This is really strong material that was once on ships that navigated the seas.

Each bag will have a tag included on it that tells you exactly what sea it sailed on, the type of boat that the sail is from, and what type of sail it once was. Having a bag made from strong recycled sails means it will last, but having this information included gives it a more unique quality.

For each of the bags that have been made they are all cleaned really well and were even bleached. Everyone knows that sails are made to be tough and water resistant and that is why these bags will last for a long time.

You do not have to worry about them wearing out easily and dumping your things on the ground because with this particular bag that just will not happen. These bags are perfect for taking just about anywhere you go, but especially to the beach where they are likely to get wet.

With the material they are made from water will not be a problem for them. Another advantage to these great bags is they are machine washable so no matter where you take them you can be sure it will be easy to get them looking like new again.

The way they have been designed they are made for carrying any of your belongings like your laptop or books while protecting them from Mother Nature. There are even inside zippered pockets that ensure your small things such as your phone or sunscreen will not be lost or damaged.

What ensures these bags are made to last, and that they will protect any belonging you place in them, is the triple stitching along with the edges and thick nylon straps. There are two different styles that you can choose from:

1. The tender bag. This bag is around 14 inches x 18 inches and unfolded it is 18 inches x 18 inches. For smaller belongings it also has 4 zipper pouches on the inside of the bag. These bags are great for everyday use or anywhere you need to take them.

2. The beach bag. This bag is just what it sounds like. It is designed to make taking your belongings to the beach much easier without ruining any of them. You can use them for other things such as shopping if you do not live by a beach because the dimensions are 22 inches wide and 25 inches tall.

Now that you know about these sailcloth bags you can see why they are unique and are great for anyone to use daily. If you are looking for a bag that is different than others you have seen then the 360 degree bag is one you definitely need to check out more for yourself.

Cashing in on Fashion - How to Get Cash For Your Old, Broken, Or Unwanted Jewelry

Fashion trends come and go and we invest in wardrobe and jewelry to keep up with those fashion trends. Over time, our jewelry may become out of date and unfashionable. That doesn't mean it's worthless! The same goes for broken jewelry or jewelry you simply don't want to wear anymore.

If you've invested in jewelry that you no longer wear, you might think the money is gone. But it's not! You can get money for jewelry that you don't want or need anymore!

It used to be that if you wanted to sell your gold, silver, or platinum jewelry, you would have to go to a pawn shop and take whatever they gave you (and it wouldn't be very much). You'd be out a lot of money, plus there's the travel time, too. And pawn shops aren't always in the most respectable neighborhoods.

There is a far more convenient way to get cash for jewelry that you don't want.
You see, pawn shops are just "middlemen". They buy your gold, silver, or platinum cheap and make their money by marking it up and selling it to someone else. What you need to do, instead, is eliminate the middleman and sell your gold directly to a gold refiner. Here's why:

Cash for gold reason #1: Gold refiners pay more cash for gold
Gold refiners make their money in a different way: They refine your gold and sell a purer form (or a different form) to someone else. In other words, they can usually pay substantially more for gold than you would get from a pawn shop.

Cash for gold reason #2: Gold refiners know what they are doing
Pawn shops have an important role to play in the economy, but pawn brokers need to know a little bit about a lot of things: Guitars, crystal, antiques, gold, silver, platinum, coins, collectibles, you name it. Gold refiners, on the other hand, specialize in gold and other precious metals. So when they analyze your gold and assign a value for it, they have their finger on the pulse of the precious metals market.

Cash for gold reason #3: Gold refiners are far more convenient
Although you can go into a pawn shop to trade in your gold, you have to drive your car there, find a parking spot, and go into the store. That takes precious time out of your day. Instead, some gold refiners offer a mail-in service: You send them your gold, they send you a check. It's that easy.

Nothing could be easier than working with a gold refiner who offers cash for gold and other precious metals.

So check your jewelry box, check between the cushions on your couch, check your junk drawer. You could have cash in there... in the form of gold!

Easy Guitar Lesson - 3 Instant Ways to Reinforce Beginner Acoustic Guitar Playing

Participate in jamming sessions with guitarists with different styles

Every guitarist will hit a wall where they feel like they are getting nowhere. Their skills do not improve no matter how much practice they put it. The thing is practicing on your own only serves to improve your technical handling of the guitar, but as with almost all musical instruments, adding that bit of creativity to the way you play the guitar is a great way to bring out the personality in your music and helps you to better define your style. This is also the part where playing with other musicians will let you observe the interesting things they are doing while playing.

Always use your guitar strap

The thing about straps is that a lot of new guitarists then to not use them from the start. Newbies will tend to play the guitar sitting down and so often do not realize the importance of a guitar strap. It is only until you get better at playing the guitar and you bring the guitar to picnics or at gatherings when a ready seat is not always available and you are forced to play the guitar standing up.

Generally, using your guitar strap the moment you pick up the guitar comes highly recommended because with it, the posture and the way you hold your guitar remains constant regardless of whether you are sitting down or standing up. One major complaint about guitar straps is that they tend to fall off easily. There are various ways to lock the strap to the guitar. Visit a local guitar shop and ask a sales assistant to let you try out a few to determine which works best for you.

Maintaining Interest

Even the greatest guitarist will, at one point or another, find that playing the guitar becomes a bother. We all tend to go back and forth with our love for the guitar. What is important is that you know it is natural.

Aspiring guitarists often mistake this "wall" as a complete loss of interest and they quit playing once they find it to be boring, mistaking this temporary loss of interest as a hint that they should quit. This is not true and if you ever find yourself getting tired of playing the guitar, all you need is to stop playing for a while to give yourself a break. When you find yourself interested once again, then go back to the guitar. Do not make learning how to play the guitar a massive pain.

Your Saxophone Neck Strap - 6 Things To Look For

There are so many different types of neck straps available today for the saxophonist because we all look for different things in a neck strap: durability, comfort, looks. I've used everything from the soft comfy ones to a shoe string and a re-shaped coat hanger when my regular one broke and there wasn't anything else around. Let me tell you, no matter how good the band is you're playing with, if you're using a coat hanger for a neck strap you really want the gig to be over quick! Note to self: carry a back-up strap.

The saxophone neck strap probably isn't the part of the saxophone we usually give much thought to although it plays a huge role in your playing comfortability and in the safety of your sax as well. Some of the most important things to consider when looking for a neck strap that's going to be just right for you:

material

comfort

durability

security

ease of adjustment

easy to insert and remove

Material & comfort

The material it's made of will affect how it feels around your neck, especially if you like to wear it inside the collar directly on the skin. I would recommend a wide, padded leather strap. These are more expensive but are the most comfortable for this kind of use. Also ok for comfortability are the neoprene ones which are a synthetic rubber. These give a slight stretch and make your horn actually feel lighter.

Security

For sax security issues it all depends on which type of player you are: sitting down in a chair or jumping around on a stage. If it's the later, then you want a saxophone neck strap that has a closed hook on it and not made with cheap plastic because your sax will eventually fall right from your hands right on to the floor. Go with the closed hook model to make it impossible for the sax to slip off the hook ring. But still, stay away from cheap plastic because after a while it will break and... bang! Once, during a live performance the plastic hook on my strap broke while I was in the middle of a wailin solo and my sax went flying to the front of the stage and just about hit a couple girls across the face... I avoid these types of hooks these days. If you spend all your saxophone playing hours calmly sitting on a chair with no aggressive movement, then a cheap, open hook neck strap will be just fine.

Ease of adjustment

How easy it is to adjust it's length is very important because you are always going to be adjusting the length of your sax neck strap. Because of the adjustment mechanisms and material of the strap it can be very hard to actually move the length up and down, especially when very slight, minor adjustments are needed and this can get very frustrating in getting the length just right. A neck strap that adjusts too easily can be even worst because the perfect length you set for yourself will change too quickly leaving you to constantly make adjustments. Avoid the really cheap neck straps for this reason.

Easy to insert and remove

If you are constantly having to remove your sax very quickly then you may need an open hook. There are hooks that are fully closed and make it impossible for your horn to fall off. Personally, I do need to remove my horn constantly during a performance but I use a closed hook. This does make it a bit more difficult but you do get used to it and you know the horn isn't going to fall off

I think the perfect strap has yet to be made. It's either too soft, too hard, to wide, too thin... and if it isn't, then there's something wrong with the hook. Go for what you need the most and remember, it doesn't hurt to have two!

Totally Unique Guitar Accessories

A guitarist cannot be measured by their accessories. One is no more or less a musician if they do not have the latest in guitar accessories and extra features. However, these unique guitar accessories would make excellent gifts for guitar enthusiasts everywhere, or serve as a practical purchase for budding players.

Cup Holders

Every musician knows the feeling. It's the middle of the second set and you're dying of thirst. Your water bottle is inconveniently located on the floor behind you, and you don't have time to bend down and reach for a quick drink in the next four bar drum solo. Enter one of the most unique guitar accessories ever invented - the cup holder. Think of the convenience and ease that drink holders provide in vehicles, and now think of them as mobile entities. Guitarists can enjoy a refreshing beverage at their finger tips with a cup holder that easily attaches to any microphone stand, music stand, or guitar stand. Never walk through the desert on stage unprepared again.

Pick Holders

Guitar players are forever putting their picks down and leaving them, dropping them, loaning them to friends, and misplacing them at the most inconvenient moments. A number of companies have come up with products to combat these problems, and they make rather unique guitar accessories. Pick holders now come in the form of key chains, or a clip that attaches right to the guitar for easy access. One especially innovative product features a wallet that has a built in place to store guitar picks, perfect for a man on the move with a tendency to misplace his guitar picks.

Personalized Picks

Looking for a way to keep track of your picks? Or are you looking for a stylish guitar accessory to give to a friend? Try ordering up some personalized picks. They come in all shapes and sizes. You can often times mix and match the weight, shape, color, and size of the picks in your assortment. It's a way to set a trend, or even a souvenir that could be passed out after a gig if you start to develop a fan base.

Quick Release Straps

For guitarists who often stand up to play, the guitar strap can present a number of difficulties. Most of them feature ties that are difficult to attach and remove if you decide that you want to just sit on the couch and jam. Enter the final unique guitar accessory - the quick release strap. This little feature has a seatbelt-like clip that can be attached and removed in one click. Install it on your guitar once and enjoy the freedom of strapped in or strapless playing.

Accessories won't make you play any faster. They won't improve your technique, and they won't give you what it takes to play killer riffs and tasty licks. Unique accessories can make you more comfortable and relaxed when you play, and give you a chance to focus on your guitar playing and shine as a musician.

The Best Guitar Case Scenario

I am an extensive world traveler, and take great pride in sharing my music with cultures around the world. After the recent purchase of a beautiful Dean acoustic electric guitar, I contemplated what type of case to buy for my new axe, which I intended to take on a trip with me. Short on cash, as I was traveling to Africa and just bought a new guitar, I thought about going with a soft case and carrying my instrument on board the plane. There was a looming possibility of full flights, which meant I'd have to check my new guitar, in a minimally protective soft case planeside.

Following much contemplation, I splurged and spent $150 on a custom hard case, so that I could check my guitar. As luck would have it, my instrument did not make it to the airport in Zimbabwe on the same day as I arrived. It apparently missed a plane change in London, and I had to wait 24 hours to retrieve my instrument. A day went by, then two, then five, and my guitar had yet to arrive. Finally on the eighth day of my stay in Zimbabwe, my guitar was delivered to my residence at last.

I honestly believe it was shipped to my hut in the desert via Pony Express that day. My brand new case was mangled beyond recognition, nobody would believe I had just bought it one month ago. Based on the outward appearance, I was afraid to see what the state of the contents inside might be. Fortunately, my actual guitar was unscathed, and I enjoyed the rest of my summer nights in Africa, singing songs with the natives. Had I purchased the soft case and carried the instrument on board with me, I might not have gone through this experience. However, my choice in a high quality custom hard case was obviously appropriate for the occasion, and preserved the life of my poor lost guitar. The moral of the story - every guitar needs a good case.

Protect your investments.

It is important to protect your investments. Musical instruments hold sentimental and monetary values which few other objects in your life will compare to. You do not drive your brand new car without full coverage insurance. Take the same precautions with your instruments - put them in cases! Many people like to place their instruments on stands or hang them on the wall as display pieces that make for interesting conversation. Use caution when doing this, especially if there are rowdy young children or pets in the vicinity. It is best to store your instrument in a case whenever possible, to avoid unexpected mishaps that could be potentially devastating.

Hard or soft cases?

Hard cases are cumbersome and heavy. It is not fun to haul one up three flights of stairs to the recording studio late at night when you are already exhausted. If you are not traveling the globe extensively with your guitar, then surely you can consider alternative case options. You might not be able to afford a leather bound hard-shell case, or you might not want to cart it around town due to the size and weight. Enter the soft guitar case, or gig bag, which offers portability and versatility. Some can be worn as backpacks, and some have more handy adjustable straps and most include a padded storage area for accessories. While soft cases (gig bags) are more affordable, and much more portable, they do not offer as much protection, and the potential for scratches on the body of your guitar is much higher.

The best case.

Investing in one hard case for long trips and at home storage and one gig bag for rehearsals, jam sessions, or coffee shop gigs, might very well be the best case scenario!

Gift Ideas For Guitar Players

When there is someone in your life who loves to play guitar it only makes sense that you indulge their hobby or passion with gifts that are perfect for them. Whether it is for their birthday, Christmas, anniversary or just because you want to do something nice, it is always good to be prepared with the best gifts to give guitar players. Many of the best gifts are very reasonable priced as well and can be given to people with all different levels of playing experience.

The next time you are shopping for a person in your life that enjoys the guitar you should consider buying them a capo. A capo is used on the fret board and it is a great tool that they can use to play in different keys. It also can be used to see how the original music written by the guitar player can sound in various keys. With a price usually under $20, a capo can make a great gift for a beginner or someone who wants to start writing their own music.

A tuner is also another thoughtful gift to give. Although it is good to eventually learn how to tune your own guitar, when people first start playing they are not going to have the experience or the knowledge to do so. And since being in tune is extremely important when playing guitar it only makes sense to invest in a reliable tuner. There are many new tuners on the market that are considered to be robotic tuners where all you have to do is to plug them in and let the guitar tune itself. This works automatically on electric guitars but for acoustic guitars you need to get an adapter to make sure it works properly. It is an innovative and easy way of tuning a guitar and perfect for almost any style of player.

Another great idea for a gift to give to the guitar player in your life is a year subscription to a guitar magazine. Many of the current magazines also offer lessons in it and it is a gift that will last the entire year. With articles written by many well known guitarists, they can learn a lot about the profession and have something enjoyable to read. For only a small amount of money you can give them that they can truly use and learn from over the year.

There are plenty of small items that you can purchase as well. There are t-shirts, key chains, mugs, sheet music, learn to play lesson books, and so much more. You can buy them an extra set of strings which commonly need to be replaced, or even extra cables, picks, straps or anything that are used on a regular basis. Many of the most useful guitar gifts can be found in any guitar shop or online. There are some great unique gifts that you can pick up on any online auction site or through a specialty guitar shop as well. This includes autographed guitars that although may cost more money they are incredibly special and one of a kind.

WCB - Lynchburg, VA - 10-10-09

Here's an interesting one. We're doing Folsom Prison Blues and things are pretty normal......until......we head out to the audience to rock with Grandma. Well, Grandma gets up and dances and then James does a drum solo on a chair on the dancefloor? A few other neat things happen until Grandma straps on the electric guitar at the end of the song - pretty cool!

How to Find Good Bass Guitar Kits

All the famous brands of bass guitar models have kits to accompany. The websites of each of these famous brands usually have an accessories section where all the bass guitar kits are listed based on the different models. The most common kit is the guitar case. The requirement for the guitar case and gig bag is that it has to be sturdy and has to be strong enough to support the weight of the guitar that you wish to carry. It is usually made of polyester and has twin shoulder straps to make it easy to carry. It is a protective cover that is used to protect your investment which in this case happens to be the guitar. Some gig bags have a side pocket where you can keep all the accessories and this makes it very convenient. The gig bags also have protective foam on the inside and headliner lining that will help protect your precious guitar from any accidental fall.

You will need to take care of your guitar by polishing it at frequent intervals and this will help to keep it in prime condition. The bass guitar kits will also include the polish that is needed for the purpose of keeping it in great condition. There are also a number of replacement parts that also form part of the bass guitar kit.

The replacement parts include bridges and tail pieces, customizing parts, knobs, machine heads, pick guards, pick up covers, pick up mounting rings, plates, strap buttons, nuts, fret ware, truss rod covers, toggle switches and pots. The guitar strings are made in a sophisticated manner and a computer controlled laser machine cuts the strings in order to get the correct dimensions. The strings affect the overall quality of the sound that emanates from the guitar and this need to be in prime condition if you want the music you make to sound good.

Most guitarist find strapping the guitar for hours while playing to be quite tiring. There is a new technology called the Air cell and this provides a lot of relief to the professionals who play for longer periods of time. The straps that you use to carry the guitar have to be of good material so that they do not cause any sort of discomfort to you. You can have brushed leather, soft leather, and custom leather as part of the straps.

The pickups are also a very important bass guitar kits and there are different types of pickups available to suit your individual needs and requirements. Tuners and Metronomes are also kits that are very useful to both beginners and professionals. There are different models of each of this kits and it is suit the various models of guitars that are available. The metronomes are most useful while practicing a particular song and you can match the feel of the song using it.

Most of the famous brands have these all complete packages and these are very beneficial both to the beginners and the professionals as well. The bass guitar kits are a very important part of the guitar package and will help you perform even better. The Gibson, Yamaha, Martin and Peavey brand of guitars all have the bass guitar kits displayed on their websites that will enable you to make the correct choice.

Who is Paul Frank?

Paul Frank is renowned for their colourful clothing and accessories and their family of Paul Frank characters that are printed on them. It all began back in the mid 90's when he was a So-Cal art student. He began creating and making wallets out of vinyl while he wasn't in lectures with simple creatures on them.

When he started giving the wallets to his close friends as gifts, they loved them and especially the monkey character called Julius who featured on most of the designs. When he heard his friend's praises he started building the Paul Frank Industries brand.

Ten years later he had firmly established himself as a leading clothing manufacturer with worldwide distribution as well as stores in some of the biggest cities in the world. The range of characters has increased too and includes the likes of Clancy the Giraffe, Worry Bear and Mika the Cat. Paul Frank industries now produce a broad spectrum of products from Julius key rings and underwear to pyjamas and trousers.

Despite all their success Paul Frank have managed to keep their cult status whilst also achieving commercial success. This is something that is hard to do because once world wide commercial appeal has been achieved there is inevitably a backlash from fans. They also have cult status among musicians and artists and have designed custom guitar straps for bands like Weezer and the Foo Fighters. They have even designed special t-shirts for the Coachella music and arts festival, one of the biggest and most established festivals in the United States. The 2 people responsible for keeping Paul Frank Industries cool are the head honchos, Ryan Heuser (President) and John Oswald (Chief Executive Officer).

Guitar Accessories? Which Ones Do I Need To Buy For My Guitar?

There are a number of guitar accessories that you might want to buy for your guitar. Guitar accessories are relatively cheap and if you are buying a guitar, you might be able to pick up a good deal if you want to buy a number of accessories as well.

Here is a list of guitar accessories to consider (in order of the most popular):

Guitar bag or case
Guitar tuner/pitch pipe
Guitar strings
Effects pedals/Foot Switches
Amplifiers
Guitar stands
Plectrums (also known as picks)
Guitar Leads/Cables
Guitar straps
Guitar Capo
Guitar Slide
Headphones
Metronome
Cleaning and maintenance (polish, nut file set, wrench set, fret file set)
Footstool
Stringwinder (also known as a pegwinder)
Straplok set
Power adaptor for effects pedals

Guitar Bags and Cases

If you plan on gigging a lot or travelling on planes/trains etc. I recommend buying a guitar case, otherwise a padded gig bag will do just fine. The Kinsman guitar cases and guitar bags are a very good quality and are also one of the most popular. The Kinsman guitar bags come in three grades.

1) Standard - hardly any padding and one small pouch for music books and accessories

2) Deluxe - quite well padded, with two pouches

3) Premium - extremely well padded, with large and small pouches and a shoulder strap.

The Kinsman guitar cases are made for Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Paul shape, electric, acoustic or bass guitars.

Guitar tuner/pitch pipe

There are hundreds of guitar tuners to choose from on the market. The best brands in order of popularity* are:

Korg
Stagg
Yamaha
Intelli
Seiko
Qwik Tune
Boss
Ibanez

The two guitar tuners that stand out from the rest are the Stagg Automatic Guitar/Bass Tuner and the Korg GA-30. These two guitar tuners are sold more than any other guitar tuner on the market.

Guitar strings

It's always wise to have a spare set of guitar strings to hand. You never know when one will brake and leave you in a difficult situation.
You will need to buy steel strings for electric, bass or acoustic guitars and nylon strings for classical, Spanish or Flamenco guitars

Here is a list of the top brands of guitar strings, in order of popularity*:

Ernie Ball
D'addario
Martin
Fender
Elixir
GHS
Augustine
Earthwood
Dan electro
Gibson
Markley
Newtone
Savarez
Rotosound
Darco
Dean
Elites
Thomastick
Tonesearch
Maxima
Warwick
Rickenbacker
PRS
Legacy
John Pearse
DR

Effects pedals

For some groovy sounds you will need to buy an effects pedal. The two most popular are the Jim Dunlop GCB-95 Original Cry Baby Wah Wah Effects Pedal and the Ibanez Tone-Lok Series SM7 Smash Box Effects Pedal.

Here is a list of the top brands in order of popularity*:

Ibanez
Jim Dunlop
Korg
DigiTech
Vox
MXR
Yamaha
Dan electro

Amplifiers

Amplifiers are used with electric guitars, bass guitars and electro-acoustic guitars.
You will need to buy a lead to connect up to your guitar.
There are many types of guitar amplifiers ranging from the smallest which is normally 10 watts up to 500 watts! or more:

Practice amps (these are normally quite small)

Standard amps (used for playing in bands or gigging)

Bass amps (used only with bass guitars)

Keyboard amps (used with electronic keyboards and stage pianos)

Mixer amps

Speakers and Monitors

Combo amps (also known as combination amplifiers)

Amp heads

Which brand of Amplifier do I choose?

There are a number of brands of guitar amplifiers, here is a list in order of the most popular*:

Marshall

Fender

Vox

Peavey

Laney

Line 6

Mesa Boogie

Kustom

Crate

Carlsbro

Ashdown

BB Blaster

Yamaha

Warwick

Dean

Crafter

Cruiser

Danelectro

All guitar amplifiers sound different. Some (like Marshall and Line 6) are good for Rock and Roll, others have a softer and less bright sound like the popular Vox amps and Mesa Boogie.

For beginners, I would recommend either the Peavey Backstage or the BB10 blaster amp.
The Peavey Backstage is by far the most popular and best value for money beginner's guitar amp on the market.

Guitar stands or Guitar Hangers

There are lots of different types of guitar stands, it really depends on which stand is more suited to you.
There is the standard guitar stand, the universal guitar stand, the auto grab guitar stand, the double and triple guitar stand and the wall mounted guitar stand. The standard guitar stand is the most popular and comes in three different types: i) electric/bass, ii) classical and iii) universal.

The most popular* brands are:

Stagg

Hercules

QuikLok

Giraffe

Warwick

Fender

String Swing

Ibanez

Plectrums (also known as picks)

Plectrums are very cheap and can be bought individually, or in packs.
Most commonly you can buy plectrums on the web in packs of 6.
Guitar plectrums come in different gauges. Usually the thinner ones are
used with Classical, Spanish or Flamenco guitars, the medium gauges with Electric and Acoustic guitars and the thickest ones with Basses.

There are lots of brands of plectrums. The most popular* are:

Stagg
Jim Dunlop
Fender
Gibson

Guitar Leads/Cables

Guitar Leads normally come in different lengths: The most common is the 15 feet/4.5 metre leads. This length is ample if you are playing in a band.

Popular* brands of guitar leads/cables are:

Ibanez
Peavey
Stagg

Guitar straps

If you want to buy a gift for a guitarist, there is nothing better than a nice leather guitar strap.

Levys and Gibson are the most famous brands of guitar straps, Levys have the most comprehensive selection.
Other guitar straps to look out for are Dickies and Wrangler.

Guitar Capo

A capo is a clamp that you can use on different frets of the guitar to change the pitch of the open strings. Each fret on the guitar is a half step. If you place the capo on the 1st fret, all of the open strings will sound a semi-tone higher than normal, this makes changing the key of a song easy.
Dunlop and Shubb are the most popular* guitar capos.

Guitar Slide

The guitar slide is a tube of some hard material about one to two inches long. Commonly, it's made from glass and metals. Each type of guitar slide has distinct characteristics, tonality, and overall sound. The guitar slide is pressed lightly against the strings so as not to touch the strings of the fret, producing a sustained tone which can be varied in pitch by moving the slide across the neck. A quick side-to-side motion is often used in this way to generate vibrato.
The most popular brand to go for is Dunlop.

Headphones

If you want to play at home but don't want to disturb your neighbours, then a good set of headphones is recommended.
Any headphones will do, so take your pick from any of the following leading brands:

Acer
Acoustic Research
Advance
Advent
Aiwa
AKG
Alpine
Altec Lansing
Amphony

Metronome

If you want to play your guitar in time then you are going to need to buy a metronome.
You can choose from modern electronic metronomes or traditional mechanical metronomes.
Traditional metronomes look very nice and are made from either plastic or wood, they are also known as pendulum metronomes because the ticking sound is produced by a small pendulum that swings back and forth, much like the old Grandfather clocks. The Traditional wooden or plastic metronomes tend to be a lot more expensive than the electronic metronomes.

The leading metronome brands in order of popularity* are:

Wittner

Korg

Yamaha

Seiko

Qwik Time

Cleaning and maintenance (polish, nut file set, wrench set, fret file set)

To look after your guitar you will need to at least buy some guitar polish. Gibson produce a good guitar polish and also Doctor Ducks Axe Wax is very popular.
If you are serious about guitar playing then you might want to have a nut file, fret file or wrench set. You can keep your guitar in top playing condition.

Footstool

The guitar footstool is used mainly by Classical, Spanish or Flamenco guitarists.
Their style of playing and the way they hold the guitar makes the use of a footstool quite important.

Stringwinder (also known as a pegwinder)

If you have lots of guitars, own a guitar shop, or tune guitars on a regular basis, the guitar stringwinder comes in handy as a real time saver. Instead of turning the guitar pegs by hand, you can use the stringwinder to speed up the process.

Straplok set

For replacing the bolt that holds on your guitar strap.

Power adaptor for effects pedals

If you use effects pedals then you will need a power adaptor to connect to the mains.
